SQL Server 2008 – “Saving changes is not permitted”
Written on March 21, 2010, by Visar Shehu.

Since I installed SQL Server 2008, I was getting an annoying error while saving changes to a given table: “Saving changes is not permitted. The changes you have made require the following tables to be dropped and re-created. You have either made changes to a table that can’t be re-created or enabled the option Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created.”

The solution is simple (but saved a lot of time for me):

In SQL Server Management Studio select
Tools -> Options -> Designers and uncheck “Prevent saving changes that require table re-creation”

Simple as that :)
